History
The Soulliere family has been in the construction/landscape business for over 50 years. The current owner’s grandfather supplied and installed new lawns and site improvements to residences around the Detroit and Grosse point area. He raised his son (Roger Sr.) as a hardworking family man with his 13 siblings. He was raised to understand that hard work and doing the right thing would result in a solid foundation of values. During this time, Roger Sr. worked numerous jobs to support his own 10 children. He cultivated a prosperous sod farm, which ultimately resulted in an invitation to the white house to be commended by first lady Bird Johnson. Roger Sr. passed on his knowledge of construction and values to his children. In 1979, his son Roger Soulliere, II carried on his legacy and specialized in stone construction. Roger believed that these same values would be embraced and would result in prosperity. He is proud to be a third generation family construction owner with over 32 years in the stone business.
The Soulliere Group™ has four separate corporations that provide total supply and installation of building stone and landscape construction:
1. Soulliere Decorative Stone (SDS) - A true hardscape and light landscape company. Roger started Soulliere Decorative Stone by learning stone paving from Canada, which was five years ahead of Michigan in 1980. He took the right way to do it and tied it into a customer-focused company. SDS is still the leader in the industry because of this approach. The company provides a wide variety of services, which range from small jobs to high-end residential to commercial, utilizing excavation crews, cement crews, mason crews, dry lay paving crews, and maintenance crews.
2. Stone City, Inc. (SC) - This Company arose out of a need to supply the materials for many projects that Soulliere Decorative Stone was culminating. To get the best possible price, SDS had to bring in truckloads of the products that were needed. Now SC deals directly with many manufactureres and purchases from the most popular quarries. Stone City appreciates the great number of loyal return contractors, Do-it-yourselfers, and retail walk-ins. SC has the largest supply yard in metro-Detroit. The company is known for having the best display, great inventory and fast service.
3. Michigan Skid Loader (MSL) - This Company was developed to handle the large volume of equipment The Soulliere Group™ owned. Soulliere employees love working with Gehl Skid Loaders (A Wisconsin-based Company). Sales volume and use of the Gehl Skid Loaders increased so much, that becoming a dealer was the logical approach. MSL now sells and rents equipment and provides maintenance services.
4. Soulliere’s Stone City (SSC) - This fourth and last company Roger believes is the piece that ties all the companies together. While supplying and installing limestone, granite and other natural stone projects, Soulliere found it difficult to get cut projects done in time at the right price. In 2006, Roger was able to purchase a 30,000 square foot factory across the street from the main Stone City yard. He wanted to transform this factory into a granite and limestone cut facility. For the first 2 years after the purchase, SSC was doing small jobs with small equipment. In 2008, Old Castle decided to get out of the stone business, and Soulliere purchased all their stone and cutting machines/supplies from their two locations. He created a complete cutting fabrication facility and hired an experienced manager from out of state. The cut shop houses on average 3,000 slabs of granite, separated by a 10,000 square foot showroom. Wood slat walls 12’ high display complete lines of products in numerous price levels. Soulliere's Stone City provides the customer various options to fit any budget.
